Located on the Wine Route, on the foothills of the Vosges, Saint-Hippolyte - Sankt Pitt - has become a "city" with walls and ditches in the 14th century. The monastery founded in the 8th century by Saint Fulrad, abbot of St. Denis and archchaplain of Charlemagne, became gradually a village where the dukes of Lorraine were the Lords until 1766. It was then that Saint-Hippolyte become French - and Alsace.

The "Red de Saint Hippolyte, pinot noir more" red "than vinified in the vicinity is renowned.

Walls and towers (there are 5) which surrounded Saint-Hippolyte not exist today as the Tower of Storks and part of the wall. A road between vineyards and gardens of the houses of the enclosure can go around the village.

The former 16th century castle, destroyed during the 30 Years War, was rebuilt in the early 18th century.

The fortified church of the 14th and 15th centuries has been enlarged in the 19th century. Its stained glass windows depict the life of St. Hippolyte.

Saint-Hippolyte has many fountains.
