Small rural town of Canton of Bourbon l'Archambault, Saint-Hilaire a little less than 600 souls. Small in area with 2064 hectares, it is the smallest of his district. The topography is hilly rather than 270 m from the edge of Morgon, the creek that runs through the town 412 m highest point. Situated equidistant from Bourbon l'Archambault, Cosne-d'Allier of Montet and Souvigny Saint-Hilaire is almost centered between the towns of the department tricephal 30 km from Moulins, Montluçon 40 km and 50 km from Vichy. Its origin dates back to the Gallo-Roman, traces of an established population on the territory certifies and sarcophagi dating from the early days of Christianity have been discovered. In the Middle Ages a castle erected thereon which there remains no trace today.

New Castle, home to the CAT, its location is built in the 18th century near the 12th century Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Loup. The history of the town is also marked by its mining past a century, the mid-19th century until the mid 20th century. This occupation has brought together up to 1,000 people at the height of its activity. It remains of this period and a heap of a city settlements. This city has hosted the departure of then repatriated from Indochina in 1962, after the War of Algeria families harkis who are still prepared today.
