TOWN PRESENTATION

Rural village nestled in the heart of the Monts du Lyonnais, the town owes its name to Argentiere an old silver-lead mine, apparently it worked since the Middle Ages.

SIGHTSEEING
  • The Church:
  • The current church was built between 1868 and 1878 to replace the Romanesque style that existed then and which had become too small.
  • The plans were requested from the architect which Merlin foresaw a neo-gothic large scale, which only the apse, the choir and three other spans were built initially, lack of resources. Work then stopped for 4 years from 1870, then finished with a large subscription from the people and personalities of the state, and a loan from the town. The interior was restored in 1987-88 after notice of the Commission of Sacred Art of the Diocese of Lyon. In 2003, lightning struck the steeple umpteenth time, which made him very dangerous because the rocks were loosened. Very important work has therefore been held until the end of 2006.
  • The interior furnishings are modest but has a strong unity as the three altars, the confessional, the baptismal font, Stations of the Cross and silverware all date from the late 19th century. Alone were added in 1941 two massive chandeliers. The whole forms a remarkable characteristic monument of architecture and sacred art neo-Gothic of the late 19th century.
  • The Roman aqueduct of Brévenne:
  • Remains of the aqueduct are visible in the woods of Valsonnière. The aqueduct carried the water captured in the Orjolles to Lyon. These remains are called "holes Saracens" as they were shrouded in mystery, as everything concerning the passage of the Saracens in our country.
  • La Maison Forte

  • In the village, some interesting buildings dating from the mid 19th century: the old Town Hall (opposite the new one) which housed the boys' school and the "Maison des Soeurs.
  • The castle of Valsonnière:
  • Its imposing castle distinguishes the Valsonnière. Built on a square is flanked by three towers. No doubt the medieval period, it belonged in the 17th and 18th centuries to the Beck family. It was then inhabited by the family Gabet before being bought by Lucien Mangini said that the dowry of his daughter. He has since remained in the family Balay.
  • Le Clos Saint Joseph was after the War, a sanitarium run by nuns. Then, the property became a convalescent home and closed around 1970. Today, this large town house (which dates from 1870-1880) is hosting a religious community.
  • The hamlet of Boussoura:
  • On the village square is an ancient lime tree which replaced one that had been planted by Sully.
  • A cross in 1994 restored the 18th century.
  • Etienne Chavannes Gazanchon From there he built shortly before the Revolution, an unfinished house where one can still see the facade.
  • A panel with more complete history of this charming little corner of the village is waiting on site, next to the picnic area was constructed and the bowls.
