Located on the plateau Artense halfway between Besse and Bort-les-Organs, the town offers stunning scenery with views of the Monts Dore, the Cézallier, the Cantal mountains and forests of the Bois des Gardes.

Legend has it that the village was destroyed as a result of epidemics of plague, was rebuilt at the current location. A small Romanesque church was built and dedicated to Saint Sebastian. This church was in very bad condition was rebuilt in the early 20th century (centennial celebrated in 2006).
