12 km Issoire, on road 26, direction Besse-en-Chandesse, a village appears out of a postcard: Saint-Floret. Surrounded by rocks, it looks like these southern villages where the light does take different forms depending on the season.
Developed village at the foot of his castle, possession before 1225 Dolphin of the Auvergne. Floret Saint Roche was named Couze during the Revolution, because the latch formed by two rocky spurs that dominate Couze Pavin, a small river that runs through the village. The town is named Saint-Floret, compared to the Bishop of Saint-Flour, which was co-bishop of Clermont under the episcopacy of St. Gal at the time of the heresy of Arius (fifth century).
Several bridges unite the two banks of the river and the old bridge Pède (fifteenth century) whose single arch in the middle is a chapel housing a Virgin in Majesty, Roman polychrome (XIII). When the village was bombed by German planes in 1944, the only bomb did not explode was that which fell under the bridge.
A bridge is adjacent to the bridge different architecture miraculously allowing motorists to cross the Couze to climb the rock of Castel.
Saint-Floret can boast of a past where history has left its mark. In climbing lane on the road appears Clémensat a feudal castle of the 13th century. A door opens onto a magnificent hall of the knights. If the time worked for the destruction of the murals, it allows you to discover 13 paintings (of 40 originally) traces the romance of Tristan and Isolde. Among the characters we recognize King Mark, Tristan Léonois, Palamedes, Helis, Morgan le Fay ... These paintings were executed around 1370 by Pierre de Athon Saint-Floret during installation of Jean de Berry in Auvergne. This room is built in Gothic cubic grandiose proportions with an edge of nearly 10 meters. Ogival ribs 12 of a rare elegance will be attached to a beautiful keystone emblazoned representing a human face to the sun. The second hall of the castle has been open since 2011 and you can see the panoramic view of the castle keep.
