The parish's current name in 1050 Saint-Brice-en-Coglès Puignac. In this village the missionaries had built a church on behalf of Saint Brice name of a bishop of Tours. The town is part of Coglès, electoral Gallo-Roman. The Lordship of Saint-Brice-en-Coglès whose existence dates back to the 10th century was within the Barony of Ferns who was one of nine Baronies of the Duchy of Brittany, which was very important because it protected the entrance to the Norman duchy, the French and English. It seems that Raoul, Baron de Fougères, at war with Henry II of England married a daughter of the lord of Saint-Brice. The latter, with its fortified castle of La Motte and the Rock-Portal, defended the marches against the English Barony installed at St James.

This country has a name of granite from Brittany. The main reason relates to the word Coglès Gougleiz Breton word signifying the four directions.

In the early 20th century, several granite quarries was working several hundred people.

Today Saint-Brice is the capital of the canton, which includes 11 municipalities.

Since 2007, the municipality is Village Stage.

La Marche des Chateaux: This walk is the route most architectural Coglais. A very nice discovery between manors and castles, offering stunning views over the buildings and areas. The heritage of the lordship of Saint-Brice had an exceptional importance in the barony of Ferns. The guerrilla warfare was very important on several occasions mainly in 1794 and 1815.
