Saint Bonnet lived in the 7th century. He served his monastery in the village for 9 years and gave it its name. His personality, his austerity, his moral qualities, wrestling and the action he took against slavery allowed him access to the see of Clermont-Ferrand. Saint-Bonnet was an important asset in the business strategy of monks chanting. These, in fact, reaping, transports and sells salt. Saint-Bonnet was on the Salt Road, near the ford that allowed to pass the Gardon.

Half way between Nimes and Avignon on the RD 6086, the village of Saint-Bonnet du Gard is located 6 km from the Pont du Gard and 2 km from Remoulins. Saint-Bonnet was home to 30 households in the Middle Ages in the old fortified village. In 1999, the town represented 579 residents and now has 703. The village has several shops. Twenty artisans and entrepreneurs are also installed on the town.

After visiting the church, join the fountain through the narrow streets of the old medieval village. Shaded by plane trees, was built under Napoleon in 1806 to replace the first one Capitelle where people came to draw water. The Roman aqueduct crossing Saint-Bonnet before joining Sernhac. Look carefully you can find some remains and identify with the walls of houses reused stones of the aqueduct after it was abandoned during the Middle Ages.
