Located on the south side of Ventalon, Saint-Andéol-de-Clerguemort is a gateway to the country from above the Gevaudan.

The origin of the town dates back to the creation of a Benedictine monastery in the 7th or 8th century. "Clerguemort" comes from the exclamation "clergy death" shouted the father prior when vandals ransacked the monastery.
