Born on 1 January 2002, the Community of agglomeration comprises 17 communes and has 130,000 inhabitants Alleins, Will, Berre-l'Étang, Charleval, Eyguières, La Barben, La Fare les Oliviers, Lamanon, Lancon de Provence Mallemort, Pélissanne, Rognac, Saint-Chamas, Salon-de-Provence, Sénas, and Velaux Vernègues.

  • Main roads: A7 motorway, Highway 113.
  • 10 minutes from the Marseille-Provence airport and 20 minutes from the port of Marseille.
  • A little history ...
  • Inhabited by humans for over 5000 years, the land of Rognac was first occupied by Neolithic Chasséen groups who lived either on the edge of the pond or in the plains or on the rocky heights of the bars lived by hunting, fishing, farming and livestock rearing.
  • For these groups followed those of the Bronze Age and Iron. The Early History of the Ligurian created there a village and plain, at the end of the first millennium BC, a refuge in height Castellas.
  • Roman rule, from the late second century BC, was followed in the late first century BC, through the creation of many areas of which one, Rudinacum, is probably the origin of the name of Rognac. The decline of the Middle Ages did not spare Rognac, which, however, was never abandoned.
  • The first millennium led to the development of the land with the construction of a feudal castle and a village perched at the foot of Castellas. The latter was abandoned in the mid-15th century and the people moved slowly near the pond and the good land of the plain, in which country houses grew larger over time to form hamlets ancestors the city today.

SIGHTSEEING
  • The church of Saint-Jacques: This is what the 17th century erected the present church. In December 1668 held the "solemnity of the first Mass and blessing." In 1994, the square was redeveloped in 1996, the bells were replaced in 1998 and the chancel was renovated.
  • The cross of Rognac: This metal building erected on a foundation of stone masonry from the year 1900. Oral tradition relates the history of the country's famous cross thanks to da family of a child miraculously saved from a fall from the ledge. However, another school building looks rather pious celebrating the dawn of the twentieth century, no clear relationship with the history nor proven popular.
  • The chapel Saint-Jacques: Dating from the 20th century chapel is decorated with a cross of the 17th century from the Saint-Jacques now demolished.
  • The cooperative Olive: The building of the old oil mill located opposite the parish church of the town dates back, according to Dr. Castel, from the late 15th century or the sixteenth. In 1999, the City began the restoration of the facade in shades of green and the sun, recalling his first feature. This building is currently available to associations.
  • The pigeon: Built in 1693, the dovecote was restored in 1997.
  • Fountains: The set of Vitrolles is dug a huge natural underground cavities and tubes which are filled with water that continues to circulate. It is through one of the many outputs of the network that runs a spring called Fountain Rognac. It crosses the rocky d'Entrecasteaux, forming a waterfall that feeds a stream, which from east to west across the plains of Rognac, is called Little Vallat and empties into the pond to western end of the boulevard Rockenhausen beyond the RN 113. With the well Rognac the Vallat was for five centuries the only source of water serving the castrum, which was inhabited from the 11th to the 15th century. But it was not until the 19th century that is installed in the bed of the Little Vallat point of capture, and a pipe which led one of the water to the village of Rognac-le-Haut, and lower to the hamlet of Peirols (Rognac-le-Bas). And it was in 1897 that major festivities celebrated the inauguration of the two fountains at the same time, one in the church square, the other on a place to be known as Freedom Square the following year, in 1898. Today, the only remaining fountain in the square of the Church, but if the surroundings were changed several times, the monument itself has not changed. We see it as 100 years ago. With these two fountains, was the first time that people had a public water supply, marking the beginning of a period of progress that continues in front of us, well beyond what might have been the ancients dreamed. A century later, let us rejoice at the thought of happiness they knew then, before the stream of living water, pure as they wished, and gave them a better life.
