Gironde small town of 1640 inhabitants, Rions (classified site) is located on the RD10, about thirty kilometers south of Bordeaux, at the foot of the hills on the right bank of the Garonne, the vineyards of the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux. Its past is rich with more than 1000 years of history. Involved in the events of the Hundred Years' War, occupied by the English since the mid-13th century, Rions was released in 1295 by Charles de Valois, and destroyed its fortifications. In 1330 Edward the third of England gave permission to Guillaume Seguin, Lord of Rions, rebuild the walls, Rions becomes one of the largest towns of Guyenne. In 1379, Rions ranks under the patronage of Bordeaux and became goddaughter of the city. The victory of Charles the 7th at the battle of Castillon in 1453 on the British army completely frees the city of Rions will remain forever French. Hard hit by the Wars of Religion, Rions lose its power and therefore will not play a secondary role.
