The village, which has 1189 inhabitants (1999 census) and covers 1870 hectares and overlooks the plains and 29 meters above sea level The town, located on the main road 37, belongs to the Canton of Bergues. Quaëdypre is 14 miles south of Dunkirk and 65 km from Lille. Quaëdypre is part of the 14th district of the North.
The arms are: Argent a lion sand and a border gules.
History appeared in 1067, the village took the name Quatipra in 1220 and that of Quaëdypre in 1393. Two versions are given for the origin of the name: bad (Kwaad), elm (Ieper) or small (Kwaad), Ypres (Ieper). This town was once part of the Flanders Marine and diocese of Ypres.
