Merger of two municipalities (in 1965) situated on both sides of the valley of the Orne bridge-Putanges Ecrepin seduced by the charm of its site, the picturesque old houses sitting on the granite rocks and its famous bell tower overlooking the Orne. These two villages knew prosperity through the work of iron Putanges (ironworks from 1548 to 1786) and the leather working to bridge Ecrepin.
In 1786, the new owner of the Forge destroyed and transformed the mill buildings. In 1900, the Moulin de la Forge is in turn converted to electricity generating plant, both common and are the first cities of the Orne to be lit with electricity. Since the Middle Ages Bridge Ecrepin is an active commercial center: millinery, drapery, and especially the tanneries will remain vibrant until the 18th century. This leather industry, the town was named "The Bridge Es Crepin. St. Crispin is the patron saint of shoemakers.
