Culmination of the central region (the Magnoux to 504 m). Meeting point of three regions: Central, Auvergne, Limousin.

Préveranges owned a castle in the Middle Ages, now totally gone, 3 remain strongholds: the Preugne Barathon, Mas Sarrazin Tower Boueix. In 1896, the population was 2,196 inhabitants.
