Charming Lot, in Occitania, Prayssac is located in the Lot valley, only 30 km from the famous town of Cahors. It is one of the jewels of Quercy.

Former estate of a rich Gallo-Roman landowner, the city of Prayssac becomes a full-fledged community in the thirteenth century. Today it is known for its gastronomy, surrounded by farms producing foie gras and vineyards at the origin of the wine of Cahors AOC.

Of modest size, the municipality rewarded with three flowers in the competition of cities and floral villages of France, nonetheless has a very interesting architectural heritage that retraces the history of Prayssac over time. Surrounded by woods and limestone hills, it also unveils a unique and unspoiled landscape.

Things to see and do

The megalithic heritage of Prayssac is of great importance and the commune has even developed a path of dolmens. One can notably discover there the dolmen of the Bertrandoune, listed in the Historic Monuments. Discovered in the early 1970s, this sandstone dolmen measures 3.50 meters long and 2.50 meters wide and has been completely restored. You can also find on your walk the chair of Caesar, a rock carved in the shape of an armchair, or even the dolmen of Quetty, a dolmen with vestibule. The walk is shaded and extends for about fifteen kilometers.

The Château du Théron is a former castle, now part of the foundation of Protestantism. Partly restored, it includes a square tower of the 13th century, a dwelling with enclosure and a chapel of the fourteenth century or round towers of the fifteenth century. The building, however, suffered extensive damage during the looting of the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century.

Rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century, the church of St. Bartholomew is not without interest.

In the commune, do not miss to admire the statue erected in honor of Jean-Baptiste Bessières, former Marshal of Empire born on the lands of Prayssac.

Signposted hiking trails allow you to discover Prayssac and its surroundings.

Throughout the year, it is possible to take walks in donkeys and llamas between Prayssac and Puy-l'Évêque.
