Prades in the heart of Conflent, the upper limit of the plain of Roussillon, based in the south in the foothills of the sacred mountain of the Catalans, the Canigou, and extends north side of the alluvial basin of Tet. At the foot of the mountain area of the department, Prades enjoys an exceptional view of the Pyrenees.
Prades is a place dear to the heart of the Catalans. For at least four reasons, the founder of Catalonia, Count Guifred, had a castle near Conflent Prades, and ended his life at the Abbey of Saint-Martin Canigou.
The Canigou is the sacred mountain of the Catalans and many people who climb each year starting from Prades.
Pompeu Fabra, grammaticien renowned codified the Catalan language by making a grammar and dictionary that are still authority. He is buried in the cemetery of Prades.
Finally Pablo Casals, the renowned cellist and founder of a music festival of the same name, has lived long in the city of Prades.
SIGHTSEEING
Prades church has a sumptuously furnished Baroque altarpieces (the largest in France at the altar) and to discover a treasure composed in part of the furniture of the Benedictine Abbey nearby Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa jewel of the Romanesque art.

The heart of the city hosts every Tuesday morning a large market attracting many picturesque conflentois every Saturday morning and the market for local producers.
Highlight of the summer, the Festival of Chamber Music "Pablo Casals", created by the master in 1950, became an international event which attracts over 8000 people in late July-early August. The groups were also other major events, such as Cine-Rencontres, the Catalan Summer University, from flea markets were held by the Group of flea markets of PO, and night markets every Friday in July and August from 17h to 23h on the Place de la Republique ...

The Pablo Casals Festival: late July-early August. Each year artists from around the world occur in the 25 concerts taking place in St. Michel de Cuxa, St. Peter's Prades and a dozen churches in the area. Are also held at the Lido (free) every morning at 11am musicological conferences and film screenings. Information +33 4 68 96 33 07.
Catalan Summer University, in August. These meetings bring together scholars each year in high school Prades about 1000 students and teachers. This is to inform the literary and scientific products in Catalan, but also to familiarize Catalan important works published in other languages. This is to promote the Catalan language and open to the world.
ATTRACTIONS, LEISURES AND ACTIVITES AROUND
The city and its surroundings have a particularly dense heritage as taking local resources (museums Pablo Casals and Martin Vives ...) than those of surrounding communities: the abbeys of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa and Saint-Martin-du -Canigou sites Eus and Villefranche-de-Conflent.
The "Day Romance" in July. Their area is the history and archeology, they stand at the Abbey of Saint-Michel Cuxa and offer university-level lectures and excursions. Each year a theme is chosen, which is the common thread in the demonstrations. Information +33 4 68 96 27 40.
