Pontrieux is located at the bottom of the estuary (the estuary) river of 71 km, Trieux. This makes the site has been inhabited since ancient times. Pontrieux means bridge over the Trieux, in Breton, "Bridge Trev. Repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt in the late Middle Ages (the Hundred Years War, War of succession of Brittany), the town itself, Republican, was created in 1790 from territory taken from the surrounding municipalities, royalists. Township Pontrieux:

• In addition to its main town, township Pontrieux is very rich and just walk in the surrounding communities to discover small chapels located on the edge of a wood: Chapel Clérin St. Cletus, the chapel Saint Jorand to Plouëc du Trieux or the chapel at St. Maudez Quemper-Guézennec.

• Runan (229 inhabitants) is proud of his church (XIV), one of the finest in Britain, built by the Knights Templar, frequented by pilgrims en route to Saint Jacques de Compostela. • Quemper-Guezennec (1040 inhabitants), besides the manor Kerlouet, introduces visitors to several chapels, crosses the bridge Frynaudour at the confluence of Leff and Trieux, its small port-Vilinic Goas and his church (St. Peter late nineteenth century), whose windows are classified by the Fine Arts.
