Pontarlier is a city located in the mountains to 837 m altitude in the mountains of Jura.

Capital of High Doubs Pontarlier is the gateway to a vast area of protected nature, where there is forest, lakes and green pastures needed to manufacture the Mont d'Or and the County.

Pontarlier became known worldwide through the production of absinthe in the early last century. Today the city has returned to this tradition as two distilleries produce absinthe again.

• Pontarlier Museum: Its collections trace some of the history of Pontarlier and Upper Doubs since its supposed origins to the 20th century: archeology (prehistory, early history, Middle Ages), French and foreign pottery, painting Grandfather (nineteenth and twentieth centuries). The museum also mentioned the role of Pontarlier in the history of absinthe.
• Church St. Benignus: Various household items many of which are protected under the Historic Monuments: a polychrome wooden statue of the Virgin and Child known as Virgin of Lausanne (fifteenth century), the high altar created by Irene Zack (1970 ), the organ of the 18th century restored and enhanced with a positive in 1982, the pulpit (1754), a recumbent Christ (sixteenth century), a Black Madonna and Child known as Our Lady of the Hermits or Notre Dame Einsiedeln (1690) which is the subject of a widespread cult in the Haut-Doubs.
