Plainfaing lies at the foot of the mountain passes and Schlucht Bonhomme, at the intersection of Crest Road and Alsace. Its altitude ranges from 530 m to 1306 m (Hautes-Chaumes). After an important textile industrial past, Plainfaing has developed its tourism and its motto "living nature".
