Paimpol (Pempoull in Breton) is located in a bay in the far north of the Côtes-d'Armor (which is protected by the fissure of Talbert) and is named "City of Icelanders" whence between 1852 and 1935 the schooners to fish for cod on the banks of Iceland (immortalized by Pierre Loti).

Currently, the town of Paimpol also includes the former communes of Kérity, and Plounez Lanvignec.
