TOWN PRESENTATION

Located at the bottom of the valley Noble Osenbach is a small town set in a natural attractiveness. It enjoys a splendid view of the Petit and Grand Ball. In the Piedmont of the Vosges, surrounded by beautiful pine forests, it is an ideal destination for ecotourism. Osenbach occupies the northern basin collapse Wintzfelden. The village enjoys a privileged position for its sunny weather and a rich panoramic linked to the geological structure. The natural flora, protected by prefectural decree stresses the great variety of soils. The man through history has helped to diversify the landscape by its crops, forests, mining activities.

Osenbach named after the creek that originates there. A noble family was named after the place and had to shield an ox head.

Osenbach part of Mundat Superior which was given by Dagobert at St. Arbogast, bishop of Strasbourg, 675.

The village was once best known for its silver mines of copper and operated from 1498 to 1850 by the Bishop of Strasbourg had the right of mine who hired them out to various companies.

SIGHTSEEING

The Church of St. Stephen, the first church was built in the 12th century. The Romanesque bell tower, very solid in its lower part to loopholes, has three floors at the top. The first is pierced with a triple arch and two of four arches on each side. All these openings include columns with cubic capitals. Enlarged in 1822, the nave and the choir were again oriented perpendicular to the original church of which only the beautiful bell tower, Consolidated and renovated in 1977, and former choir vestry now.

The astronomical observatory: it is for the Astronomical Society of the Upper Rhine (SAHR). The observatory was opened in 1993. Tours are available to the general public on Friday evenings in July and August, with presentation of the various missions of the SAHR and observing the sky with specialized instruments.

The path of the soil: this teaching equipment, consisting of 18 panels and no equivalent in France, aimed at a broad audience, and students will find a tool for innovative work while valley residents and visitors will see the opportunity to learn or improve their knowledge of soil science, while being aware of a little-known aspect of the environment. The starting point of the trail is set for camping intercommunal Street Stadium to Osenbach. The loop trail is about 7.5 km and it takes 3:30 to go in its entirety, including downtime.
