TOWN PRESENTATION
  • South of the Champagne-Ardenne, Nogent in the department of Haute-Marne (52), is a town of about 5000 inhabitants. It is located close to major highway arteries (A5 and A31), 3 hours from Paris or Lyon and 1 hour north of Dijon. This Nogent is often confused with Nogent-sur-Marne or Nogent-sur-Seine ... But that's what Nogent Haute-Marne, whose name, without any additives, is inscribed on the blades of knives and scissors .
  • From a historical point of view, very ancient origin is attested by the existence of several dolmens. In the Middle Ages, the city, built on a rocky outcrop, was conducive to the installation of a castle, which Thibaud V, Count of Champagne, captured in 1284. During the Hundred Years War (1337-1453), the Anglo-Burgundians were masters of the city. At the end of the 15th century, the plague in addition to the scourge of war, the country is ruined and there are only 92 people. At the dawn of the 18th century, nothing remains of the castle, except a corner tower that will be reconstructed in the following century.
  • The Epic of cutlery in 1650, cutlers of Langres, the next town, settled in Nogent to escape including a new tax deemed abusive. In the 18th century, Nogent cutlery is renowned throughout Europe for its luxurious productions. In the 19th century, cutlers Basin Nogent even winning the World's Fairs. It is also the time when we begin to see the first hammers, precursors of the industrialization of the basin. Cutlery Nogent, originally only artisanal, and has gradually diversified into several main areas of activity: forging and stamping, cutlery, scissors, hand tools for professionals, and finally the medical and surgical instrumentation. Currently, these are the forge and the medical and surgical instruments (which employs many Meilleur Ouvrier de France) that ensure the highest turnover of the pool.
  • Eating Local: thanks to the vast forests and cutlery products to the delight of hunters, it is mostly the game is showcased on the plate Nogent (wild boar, roe deer, deer). But we must also reckon with the rich waters of the sector (trout, perch, pike, perch), which are the source of a multitude of the finest dishes from each other, especially when married to some other products leading south Haute-Marne, such as wine or Coiffy Montsaugeon, or even the famous cheese of Langres, for example.
