Murlin is built in the valley Mazou (which takes its source near the church). In 1052, we made a parish under the name Murellanium, hence the name Murlin or Meurlin, as is still sometimes pronounced. This ancient parish had long been part of the diocese of Auxerre and was dependent on the priory of La Charité-sur-Loire. During the revolution, this small town was for ten years connected as that of Saint-Aubin La Celle and the Canton of Beaumont-la-Ferriere and District Charity. District and Township have been deleted in the year XIII, Murlin became part of the canton of Charity and the district Cosne.
Hydrography: The low hills around the country with altitudes ranging from 235 to 270 m. The land is clay. The Mazou sprinkles some meadows and after receiving the stream of Saint Vincent, moves the mill Boulet, passes Chanay. Narcy A, it receives the stream Raveau, passes Buley at Mesves, and empties into the Loire. The stream of St. Vincent is rooted in the woods, he once fed ponds of St. Vincent, Candies, Bel-Air, and limousines, which were dried after the removal of these forges.
A communal watering once existed on the corner of Routes to Charity and Mauvrain in the meadow still called Mill meadow (former millpond turning once). The desiccation of many lakes has eliminated endemic fevers almost constant.
The common Murlin was severed in 1791. The cadastre was finished on the ground in 1818 and revised in 1827. But the figures from this period have varied significantly as a result of demolition, construction, disappearance of forging, making roads, draining ponds, land clearing: what has changed the face of the country.
The Murlin surrounding hills are covered with wood, there were 1013ha. These woods given to a very remote period by a lord of Montifault in 1276 by William of Thiauges, lord of Montifault and Grenant, his vassals, have remained in families which succeeded them. Each year we operated a certain extent through which charge was issued to residents Montifault and Bois de Beaumont and shared between them due to a right per household.
There was once the territory of Murlin several ironworks that operated until the 19th century. The local trade has disappeared with the forges.
The church was built in the 12th century, it is oriented and placed under the patronage of St. Martin. The choir with apse round is 12th century. The tower is a small slate arrow which rises in the middle of the roof, it dates from 1837 and 6 m in height. There are 3 bells, 1598, a cracked in 1796 and a third in 1783. We found many bones from the bodies of priests, nobles and others. The lords of Montifault were buried in the chancel of the church.
