Mûr-de-Bretagne is a commune in the Côtes-d'Armor department in the Brittany region, 20 km west of Loudéac and 45 km south of Saint-Brieuc.
The locality is located on the course of Blavet which constitutes the limit with the department of Morbihan.
Mûr-de-Bretagne merged on 1 January 2017 with Saint-Guen to form the new commune of Guerlédan, in reference to the 300-hectare lake that has made the city famous, although it also partly covers the territories of Saint-Aignan And Sainte-Brigitte in Morbihan and Caurel and Saint-Gelven in Côtes-d'Armor.
The lake was created from 1923 to 1930 following the construction of a 40 m dam on the Blavet to power a power plant. It is now an important tourist center.
Until then, Mûr-de-Bretagne after being a small seigneury (decorated with an enclosure in the shape of small wall, hence its name) in the center of Brittany was an agricultural and commercial borough, complementary activities (craft industry, agroalimentary) 'Being developed in the twentieth century.
Besides a high quality built heritage, the town is a stage and even a holiday resort appreciated by lovers of green and family tourism.
Before enjoying the many pleasures and activities offered by the lake, a discovery of the listed historical heritage of Mûr-de-Bretagne as of Saint-Guen is not without interest.
On Mûr-de-Bretagne, one must see the chapel Sainte-Suzanne, erected in the 16th century on the ruins of a small castle that belonged to the Rohan family. We can admire its painted interior paneling (XVIIIe) representing the Passion and the life of Sainte-Suzanne. Note that a painting of Corot (XIX) has immortalized the secular oaks that surround it... In the village, the church of Saint-Pierre dates from the second half of the 19th century. Inside, it houses many notable sacred works, such as a statue of the Madonna and Child (15th) and an eagle Small piece of furniture for reading or writing) from the 16th century.
Another curiosity is the covered alley of Coët Correc, a megalithic burial spanned by the remains of a 19th-century Calvary.
Finally, the castle of La Roche-Guéhennec erected in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 17th century was the seat of the local seigneury. Private property, it is the subject of a new restoration campaign and the site is accessible the first Saturday of August, during a fest-noz (traditional feast and ball) gathering in particular the volunteers participating To the work.
On the former commune of Saint-Guen, the church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine is decorated with a tower (XVIth, XVIIth) as well as its fountain of devotion, outside, and the neighboring wash-houses.
The Saint-Tugdual chapel (beginning of the 16th century) and especially the 15th century cross of the Sénéchal, in granite, are also worth a visit: the pedestal of the cross itself, decorated with rich motifs, includes a seat with armrest. The seneschal (officer of the lord) made his decisions of justice there...
In a completely different area, lined with forests, the lake is dotted with several beaches. There are five.
Beau Rivage includes a beach, a water sports center (water skiing, canoes, pedal boats, paddle) and is the point of embarkation for a cruise aboard the Duke of Guerlédan to discover the lake.
Sordan Cove has a pedalo and canoe rental, but its beach is not monitored.
The cove of Guerlédan, which adjoins the wood Cornec, offers canoes and kayaks and has a mountain biking station (12 marked trails).
There is also the beach of Landroanec, prized by fishermen. Beware, unmonitored swimming.
At Trégnanton, finally, the creek presents a more wild aspect, between heath and gorse. The place is specially designed for fishermen.
For all the nautical activities (rowing, canoeing, water skiing, sailing) but also mountain biking or initiation to climbing, it is possible to address from April to September at the departmental outdoors base. Information on +33 2 96 67 12 22.

Finally, cycling enthusiasts can try to climb the famous coast of Menez Hiez, or coast of Mûr, on the RD 767, at the northern exit of the town. 2 km long, it has steep gradients (6 to 15%) which often has the honors of the Grande Boucle...
On the 15th of August, the feast of the Lake punctuates the summer season: fun activities, nautical activities, concerts.
The second weekend of September, the Biozone regional fair brings together producers and the public interested in organic farming (market, meetings, shows).
