The resort consists of two distinct parts:
- The top village, built on a promontory overlooking the old bed of the Rhine, about fifteen meters.
- The lower village, located on the old riverbed, are protected by dikes of high water.
The village is bounded to the east by the Rhine, the third largest river in Europe after the Volga and the Danube, forming a natural border between France and Germany and west by hills and the valleys advanced Vosges du Nord.

- Place de la Mairie and St. Pantaleon went a bit reminiscent of the days of old, as the square of the town hall is a communal well in running the alley and Saint Pantaleon was treated as before in y putting the ramp in oak. At night, a magnificent lighting illuminates the whole.

Furthermore, in order to enlarge the museum part, fitted with a glass roof taking the form of a traditional boat with a flat bottom was attached to the main building giving it a characteristic appearance. Aspect amplified by the presence of a small pond located outside the center.
- The works of protection against floods of the Rhine still remain on the territory of the municipality and also the high water dams, one can also see one of the few dams still existing beams along the Rhine. The weir valve of Sauer, located at the mouth of the Sauer and Rhine, was commissioned in 1993 to improve protection against floods of the Rhine and preserve the lower valley of the Sauer. This exceptional book is unique in Europe because of its design consists of a valve 60 meters long and 7 meters high and is operated by 2 hydraulic cylinders with a thrust of 350 tons each.
