Land of contrast between mountain and valley, Mouthier is the last village before the gorge Nouailles. It offers fantastic landscapes full of fabulous legends (The Monk and the Sorceress). Within a few kilometers, you go from 300 to 900 m altitude, the valley of the Jura plateau and you will be the gateway to Switzerland. In these wild places, the village (400 m) nestles at the foot of steep cliffs of Haute-Pierre (882 m) and Monk (800 m).
Surrounded by meadows covered with cherry trees, whose fruits give kirsch deemed Mouthier is one of the main attractions of the Valley. His trail will take you to the meeting of the Upper Valley of the Loue.
At the corner of Route Courbet, you can certainly see: Chamois and roe deer, buzzards and peregrine falcons, foxes and weasels or trout and grayling from a flora rich in wild orchids.
Places full of history and culture: A picturesque village, it began with an ancient Benedictine priory founded towards the year 800. Its name comes from the monastery and the rock under which it was built. It was built on the right bank of the Loue, in the sun. The culture of the vine is as old as the village, which earned him his character. The streets are narrow, lined with old winegrowers' houses with interesting relics of the past sculptures and statues. Mouthier is an ancient wine village and as such participates in the St. Vernier rotating (like the St Vincent rotating villages of Burgundy).
The name comes from its Mouthier monastery can be visited on certain days in summer (ask the Association "Welcome to Mouthier"). There is also a beautiful church that legend holds the place of baptism of St. Cecilia.
Around the village are traces of many hiking trails of all levels.
In the village nearby, Loue is a river of 1st category known for its trout.

In January: Feast of faults. The faults are large candles that are rotated after having lighted a large fire. After a Mass and a meal, the village rises torchlight procession up the hill where the fire then the flaws are on, after singing, mulled wine and we descend to eat the cake offered by the county (it is possible buy faults on the spot if you do not do).
In summer, a night market (from 19h to 22h) anime Wednesday evening once a month (2 times a month in July and August). This market includes twenty merchants.

The source of the Loue: magnificent resurgence to 20 minutes by car.
The Hautepierre rock overlooking the village (15 minutes by car and 5 minutes walk) where you can see Mont Blanc on a clear day.
The city of Ornans (20 min drive) home of the painter Gustave Courbet (museums, swimming ...)
A little later we find Pontarlier and the mountains of Haut-Doubs (30 to 45 minutes) and Besancon with its museums, fortifications of Vauban, etc. (45 minutes by car).
