Formerly closed city around its castle, Montsoreau witnessed ancient battles to defend the steps of the Anjou and the Wars of Religion before sinking slowly into oblivion until the 19th century. Then Alexander Dumas awoke memories by writing The Queen of Montsoreau. Thus was born the legend of the beautiful Diane de Meridor madly in love with the beautiful Bussy.
