TOWN PRESENTATION

Montrottier is common in the wider area of the canton of Saint-Laurent-de-Chamousset. The town, located 700 meters above sea level, offers a vast panorama of the surrounding countryside and the Alps in the distance, on clear days.

In the 10th century, the abbey of Savigny erected in Saint-Martin-les-Perils priory, outpost for protection against robbers. Castle Montrottier had to sustain several seats. He was captured and dismantled by the Archbishop Renaud, during the Wars of the Church of Lyons with the abbey of Savigny in 1196. In the second part of the 15th century, Guichard Pavia rebuilt the castle and build the central part of the present church.

Market Montrottier back to Louis XIV, period of construction of exhibition halls that still exist today.

SIGHTSEEING
  • The Suel of Tithing:
  • The "Suel" was a place where they beat the grain with a flail, and later at the Combine. The word "tithe", he described a tax equal to one tenth of crops and herds, given the benefit of the Church. A Montrottier, she was given prior to the lord. Tall houses forming walls dominate the place. These are the old castle walls which were terraced houses. The Suel Tithe served the fairgrounds, and until the 1980s, held the market strawberries.
  • The street of the Tithe:
  • A very old door knocker studded with the firm traboule. Some houses have retained their original small openings, and we guess some still on their mullions.
  • Place Lower Court:
  • This refers to the castles in the part where the servants live, as opposed to the High Court which saw the Lord. The entrance of houses is on the floor. Formerly, the ground floor were occupied or used for special workshops for weaving hemp. Looms silk were in contrast to the floor. The window frames are usually the attic wood. Pulleys used to mount the wood or various commodities. A pump in the middle of the square, replacing the well.
  • The Church:
  • The priory chapel, called St. Stephen's chapel became the parish church from 1808. Before that date, the parish worship was guaranteed in the church of St. Martin. In 1821 it was repaired to accommodate all the faithful: he had to enlarge the nave from the tower, extending the existing windows and penetrate new ones.
  • The turret is pentagonal tower climb. On the arched pediment door, you see a coat of arms of Pavia Guichard: "Vairé gold and vert" and the inscription "ECCLA Beate Marie prioratus Forgot Rotra" ( "Church of the Blessed Mary, Priory Montrottier ").
  • On the face of the tower is marked with the emblem of Albon: "Sandy the golden cross." The family of Albon has provided many priors to Montrottier.
  • The steeple of the church, Greco-Byzantine style, topped with a Greek cross, was rebuilt according to plans by architect Despierres following a fire that destroyed the dome in 1883. Reaching the church, we see a crest on the wall of the sacristy of weapons Guichard of Pavia.
  • The market:
  • This building is now converted into a ballroom. The openings were glazed on both sides. The apparent structure returned is remarkable for its elegance.
  • The construction of a hall or the creation of a market required a royal permission. The prior Claude Albon pattentes obtained letters of King Louis 14th in 1693, confirming the privilege markets. It was at this time that the halls were built outside the walls, but the castle gate.
  • The configuration of the building (masonry walls close these halls) may suggest, first they were used for storing products of the tithe, on the other hand they were used by the prior to make justice. The prison was located? in the current WC!
  • The door of the enclosure and the enclosure:
  • South of the church, a Gothic portal has served as an entrance to the priory. A patch was probably mutilated bear the Arms of Guichard of Pavia. Some houses look very old. Formerly, people sought safety by building their houses around the castle priory. This gives the village an old organization collimaçon.
  • The main street:
  • In the 19th and early 20th century, merchants and craftsmen were numerous. The Lyons came to Montrottier vacationing. The hotel was playing an important role.
  • La Chapelle Saint-Martin-des-Perils:
  • Listed as Supplementary Historical Monuments.
  • Parish Church until 1802, it has been recently restored with the desire to develop its murals and its different periods of construction and restoration, from the 10th century to today.
  • Monitor Landscapes: Discover the landscape and its evolution.
  • Four walking routes and a journey to bike or car you are shown a kiosk in the village center with a general map.
  • Throughout the course, you will find a markup whose color varies with the circuit and panels. Departure: Suel the tithe.
  • The circuit of the village:
  • All those assets are highlighted with signs affixed to buildings in the village. Just follow the blue and not let yourself be guided by the numbers. Departure: Suel the tithe.
