Montmédy Citadel, one of the few strongholds completely preserved, was built on a rocky promontory above 100 meters on the level of the lower city. It is surrounded by a moat of 2 km long. The length of its walls, bastions, half-moons and cons guards placed end to end more than 6 km.

The museum on the citadel of Montmédy and renovated in 2007, dedicated to him. He was born in 1848 in Damvillers, a small rural town not far from Montmédy. He died early in 1884 in Paris, he was 36 years old. He achieved fame in Parisian social circles, the quality of his portraits and stood at the forefront of his time. He was also known for his large canvases depicting the peasants of his village in their activities. Thus, the hay season and October, are among his greatest masterpieces.
