SIGHTSEEING
  • "Cap Loire": Discovery Park on the inland waterways of the Loire: Come discover the ship Cape Verde (self-propelled barge of 1929, historical monument in 1994), a permanent exhibition on the inland waterways of the Loire, theme gardens, rooms temporary exhibitions (in season). Open from April 15 to October 15.
  • Walks in the Loire commented walks from April to November.
  • The church of St Symphorien was built (1858-1864) on the ruins of the old castle burnt down in 1793 by Republicans. Neo-Gothic style, it overlooks the Loire and its valley.
  • Bridge Montjean date of 1948 after having been repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. It spans the Loire with its 496 m long.
  • La Chapelle Saint Aubin 11th century has the characters of the novel Angevin.
  • The tomb of Edmond Heusschen pyramidal shape is outside the cemetery. Benefactor of the town for making it successful in the 1850s, the Belgian engineer moved to Montjean in 1854. He bought the lease of mines and creates Montjean Mining Company and lime kiln in Lower Loire and development activity of the city Loire.
  • Saint Meen The fountain erected in 1887 was a very important pilgrimage center in the early 20th century. The healing water from its source (?) Scabies. It has a small chapel on the pediment of which is inscribed "A St Meen Châteaupanne Montjean 1889." It is on the altar that was before the Pilgrims celebrated a service during pilgrimages. Abandoned, vandalized, the chapel is now in ruins and its source is exhausted.
  • The gateway replaces Trottier in 1979 the ferry connecting the island to Chalonnes Montjean. It is named after the hemp on the island who wrote to the President of the Republic to achieve its inception. Before its creation the islanders had to make a detour of 20 km through Chalonnes or take the ferry (until 1972). The last ferryman, Auguste Leduc, Petty was also the last poet to transport lime to Britain by the canal from Nantes to Brest.
  • The Chapel of Our Lady of Good Help was offered by the spouses Arsendeau (the chapel was built on land belonging to them) to the Parish Council in 1816. The neighborhood was built near the subdivision is now called the Chapel.
  • The docks extend over 650 m and are made of stone since 1794 (previously they were in sand). The dock Salmon (mariners wharf) was used for docking, loading and unloading ships. The dock Bishop Provost was used for its maintenance of boats. The goods transported on the river were slate, limestone, lime or exotic products purchased and brought to Nantes Montjean. The hourglasses were circulated until 1994 (end of sand mining) and oil until 1991. Montjean was the first port of Nantes Loire from 1850 to 1900. 6000 ships / year spent there in 1838 (not counting steamboats!).
  • The island of Chalonnes, which with its 13 km long, is the largest island of the Loire. Formerly privileged place for the cultivation of hemp and willow, it is now home to another 300 people.
  • The horse of the wells in the trench was built in 1874 is considered one of the largest of 13 horses preserved coal mine in France (32 meters high). A horse above the mine shaft of the trench down to 178.5 m below ground. A pulley system allowed up the bags of coal to the surface so they can be transported by railway, to the lime kilns. Originally, the entire site of the trench consisted of a port, seven fours contained in the same massive trapezoidal, a mine and a career related to the ovens by way of a railroad.
  • The lime kilns which can be particularly seen on the banks of the Loire (a circular walk goes around). Loire in the city has a total of 23, some of which are registered or listed historic monument since the late 80's. In traditional form, they form truncated cones ranging from 7 to 14 meters high and 8 to 16 meters in diameter.
