TOWN PRESENTATION
  • Montigny-lès-Metz is a town of Moselle, in Lorraine, 670 hectares, located 185 m above sea level average. With 23,405 inhabitants it is the third city of the department. It is part of the Commonwealth of Metz Metropole and the district of Metz-Campagne. Embraced by the Moselle and its right tributary, the Seille, crossed by the canal de Jouy aux Arches in its northern, urbanized Montigny is on almost all of its territory. Its population density is relatively high.
  • A city rocked by the Seille and Moselle ... Precious elements of life of Montigniens, the Moselle and the Seille to go through the city before joining the heart of Metz, a city near you. Nature casting the canal gives the city the look of a green city. More than an ornament, the canal, surrounded by its green, is a real place to live. At the slightest ray of sunshine, these green spaces become places to walk to families. The banks of the canal can also travel to Metz city center by bike or on foot, whether for work or pleasure. The town of Montigny is willing to leave semi-natural areas available to its residents who regularly attend the canal.
  • A city railwayman ... The rail network forms a three-pointed star that cuts the city into two. Two bridges allow passage between the two parts of the city commonly known as "Montigny up" and "Montigny Low". Particular attention is paid to the flowering of these bridges. This definition gives a singular profile rail to the city.
  • A military town ... Many fire stations are symbols of the history of the city during the annexation. Military on a surface of 45 hectares, these barracks, clearly visible in the community, are currently still working but some are caused to be released in the coming years. The city has plans to acquire the old sites and Reymond Lizé an area of 13 hectares to build an eco-neighborhood.
  • Montigny-lès-Metz, is also:
  • 3 homes.
  • 6 kindergartens and elementary schools.
  • 110 associations (cultural, sports, family and social).
  • 3 childcare early childhood and one relay parent childminders.

SIGHTSEEING
  • Parks and gardens of the city:
  • Committed for many years in a sustainable development policy marked, the city pays particular attention to street maintenance and flowering bridges, squares and places of the town. The town received its fourth flower at the National Competition in 2010, Cities and Villages in Bloom. It thus enters the circle of some 200 distinguished French communes. Montigny-lès-Metz now offers a pleasant lifestyle and provides its residents and visitors over 35 hectares of green quality, including 4.5 hectares of parks and gardens.
  • The castle of Courcelles, fitted behind the castle and to the edges of the canal, is a family space, place for walking and relaxation. You can admire over 32 different species of trees such as chestnut trees of India, flat maple, cypress, white birch or charms, some of which have between 100 and 150 years.
  • Just recently opened in summer 2010, the garden-front Blory was created in a very natural, almost wild, and environmentally friendly. Former wasteland is now an example of biodiversity conservation in the heart of a new district. Mosaic vegetation, the park meets lawns, pool, rose garden, orchard and arboretum that require walkers to original discovery in the alleys.
  • The channel Jouy aux Arches, which crosses northern Montigny, is also an opportunity to enjoy semi-natural areas. Its banks were built, one in an alley reserved for pedestrians, the other in a cycle track, to allow everyone to stroll along the water.
  • Monuments of the city:
  • Château de Courcelles and park: The castle was built in 1713 by Charles Joseph de Courcelles, counselor and secretary of the King, grand voyer '(engineer paths) in the generality of Metz, Husband of Barbara Besser. Beautifully restored with all the features of the 18th century, the castle of Courcelles, located in a park of more than 2 hectares, hosts exhibitions of quality and user-friendly events throughout the year (exhibitions from Friday to Sunday, 14h to 18h). The castle is open to the public for guided tours on some Sundays (information +33 3 87 55 74 16).
  • St. Joseph Church: The Church of St. Joseph was opened after three years of work in July 1906 by Bishop Benzler, bishop of Metz. It is constructed of a basilica with three naves, the Romanesque Revival style Rhine. The stone used is the Jaumont stone, as is the case for many buildings in the Messina area. The church facade is pierced by three doors with large gate topped by the statue of St. Joseph, patron of the church. It contains the remains of ancient churches in which Montigny Christ in a wonderful 15th century timber and a statue of Saint-Privat which were in the church of the same name. The church is decorated with a variety of interesting frescoes restored by the city in 2008 and 2011. We also note the significant presence of dragons (stalls, canopy, canopies, marquees, transept). It has many interesting stained glass windows, designed by glass artist Martin of Wiesbaden, a large mechanical organ installed in 1987 by François Delangue, completely restored in 2005 by master Jean-Louis Helleringer and a choir organ, built by the famous firm Cavaille-Coll in 1905.
  • Chapel St. Privat: Saint-Privat was the first church of Montigny-lès-Metz. Built in the 9th century. Alternately burial, Protestant place of worship and Catholic, she has seen many changes over the centuries. The remains found at the opportunity to work in this street have been restored in 2008. The chapel is open in the afternoon on the last Sunday of each month.
  • Protestant church: The story of the Protestant community of Montigny goes well beyond the construction of the temple as it is today. From the 16th century, driven from Metz at the time of the Reformation, Protestants took refuge in Montigny, including the church of Saint-Privat hosting their first office in 1561. In the 1880s, the Protestant community still lacks a place of worship clean. The decision to build a temple is taken jointly by the two cities, the prospect of a merger Metz-Sablon Montigny. Work began in 1892 and the temple, of great architectural simplicity, was inaugurated two years later, at Christmas 1894. This parish has always been involved in the life of Protestantism messin.
  • Church of St. Joan of Arc: The construction of the church was decided in 1938. It is dedicated to Joan of Arc. The national hero was canonized in 1920, it was a tribute to the abbot of the time, Pierre Leroy, to give his name to the new parish with many soldiers. World War II suddenly stops work in 1939, only the basement with the crypt was completed. From 1945, the Mass is celebrated in the basement until the resumption of work, but the five years following the Liberation difficult. Work resumed in 1950 actually. The church was inaugurated December 11, 1960, by Monsignor Schmitt, the new bishop of Metz, 30 years after the first steps and exactly 25 years after the inauguration of the Chapel of St. Bernadette. The Church of St. Joan of Arc is 68.5 meters long and 30 meters wide, height 17.8 meters of the nave. Materials, rubble and pretty Jaumont stone that gives luster peculiar to this set, it is akin to the modernist style, as Sainte-Thérèse in Metz. The architects are George and Henry Tribout Drillien. The church windows were installed in 1962. The design and layout of the windows are the work of Camille Hilaire, one of the major artists of the 20th century in Lorraine, born in Metz, Grand Prix de Rome in 1950 and were completed by the glass artist Pierre Benoit Nancy. The large glass roof panels with 22 shows four angels and Joan of Arc in armor holding a sword, among the four angels, two of which pose a crown on his helmet. Transparency and light characterize large panels 16 non-dominant figurative blue and yellow of the nave and choir. The five windows of the transept, side street Nicolas Hamant, represent the four evangelists with their symbols. And street side Leon Barillot, three non-figurative windows represent the blue sky ... In total there are 1552 Claustras. An altarpiece complete the ornamentation of the church. Referring to episodes from the life of the Virgin, it is due to the artist Claude Michel.
