Montgenèvre is a charming alpine village located south on a hill close to the Italian border. The municipality is composed of two villages in bloom: Montgenèvre located on the cervix Alberts of the village, nestled at her feet at the entrance to the valley Clarée.
At 1860m altitude, Montgenèvre, whose origins date back to antiquity, retains the specific mountain while enjoying the exceptionally sunny Mediterranean climate (300 sunny days per year): clean air and invigorating, summits , the alpine meadows, lakes, altitude, streams and forests for all lovers of nature and beautiful landscapes.
Montgenèvre is in the PACA region and as such is easily accessible from the south. From the quality of its transport infrastructure, including the Italian side of the neck border Montgenèvre is fully opened up due to the proximity of the highway Chambéry / Modane and the tunnel of Frejus Alpine nearby, and the TGV station Italian Oulx, distant only 15 km (Paris-Oulx in 4 h 30!). Thus it becomes one of the stations of the Southern Alps the most accessible from the north.
The village is bordered by two sides: The Chalvet and The GONDRAN. South side forests are mainly composed of pine brackets, very Mediterranean vegetation. The north or shady side slope (slope GONDRAN) which slopes down from Chenaillet or Eagle Rock, is wetter. The forest, consisting mainly of larch and cembra pine, is ideal to go and look cool in summer. The torrents of spring here and there.
The summit of the pass line is the watershed. On the side of GONDRAN the middle of mountain meadows, rivers Sources Durance, enhanced by a journey of discovery on the other, the sources of Dora, a stream in the middle of the forest, whose waters flow into the Po. Most of the peaks around Montgenèvre peak at 2700 m; Chaberton the highest point of the town, rises to 3131 m.
At the pass, the two lakes and the 18-hole golf course, built there fifteen years, decorate an open landscape.
