A 90 km south of Toulouse, on a hillside overlooking the right bank of the Garonne, Montespan, pleasant village of Comminges, welcomes you near the Central Pyrenees.

Montespan is best known from the time when the family moved to Spain in that territory. Around 1235, the daughter of Arnold of Spain, Lord of Montespan, married Roger de Comminges, the Viscount of Couserans.

Lords of the Spanish family settled in the thirteenth, the origin of the name Montespan is a deformation of Mont Spain, after the name of lord of the family until the fifteenth.

In 1663, Louis-Henri-Pardailhan Gondrin Athenais wife Françoise de Rochechouart-Mortemart. She became the Marquise de Montespan and make the name famous by becoming the favorite of Louis IV.

The municipality owns the castle since 1995, when the mayor was Roger Garcia. The village now enjoys the reputation of the famous Marquise and the municipality in place, headed by its mayor, Marie-Christine Llorens, multiplies its efforts to develop this site and develop tourism.

Moreover, Montespan has one of the finest prehistoric caves in the world. Discovered in 1922 by Norbert Casteret this cave dates from the Magdalenian period. She is now closed to the public.
