The name "Monteneuf" comes from "Moustier-Nine" (monastery). The town was founded by a pious traveler in a place called Pymont, where a monastery and chapel are built. The Priory of St. Michel des Moutiers was located on the town today. Monteneuf was erected in town in 1790, and a parish in 1802.

With more than 400 standing stones, of which 42 trained, the archeological site of Monteneuf is considered one of the largest inland Brittany. The "alleys covered" nearby are further evidence of this prehistoric activity.

The summer events (guided tours, workshops, discovery ...) you will discover the movements and lifestyles of our ancestors. Free access all year round, visits and activities in July and August!
