Montbenoît, a small town in the Haut-Doubs, bordering the Swiss border, is the capital of canton.

Its 347 inhabitants called "Sauget" are proud to live in the capital of the Republic of Saugeais.

Montbenoît is famous for its abbey, erected from the 12th to the 16th century. This medieval religious monument is the best preserved of the department. The abbey was endowed with magnificent carved choir stalls and a very well preserved cloister.

Sports and cultural events are linked together throughout the year.

In winter, Nordic ski trails are available to you with the opportunity to practice the sleigh riding, dog sledding, snowshoeing and downhill skiing. In summer the hiking trails allow visitors to discover the verdant landscapes of the Sages.
