This town has good access to both the old National Road (between two highway interchanges) and the railway. Some companies have settled.

The first lords of Saint-Hippolyte were named: Huguette Saint Hippolyte married Jacques de Valon (c. 1450) and the barony of this family will remain until the French Revolution.

The parish church of Saint-Hippolyte-de-Rome, noble converted to Catholicism under the emperor Valerian and martyred by the latter in 261, is located in the old town, accompanied by a small cemetery. It was completely rebuilt in 1495 and underwent, between 1775 and 1783, major restoration work on the west facade. Several interesting statues are on display like that representing St. Anne Trinitarian dated from the late 15th century polychrome carved stone and gold, and a Pieta in limestone polychrome and gilded. Several arms of local families are represented on the keystones (Braquillange family, family Montaignac). The capitals, Gothic carved decoration of a plant. The corbels, supporting the roof, representing fantastic characters, human or animal, are still in good condition.

A monumental granite cross dating from the 13th century next to the rectory, the lower part is an anchor. A second cross of the 13th century is in the cemetery.

The old school hall, built by local architect Felix Philipponnet, is distinguished by its standard plans issued at the time of Jules Ferry.
