At the bend of the river on the way to Saint Jacques de Compostela, the village is surrounded by the Strings, walks occupying the former location of ditches and ramparts. In his heart, the houses huddled around the church of Saint Peter.
In the first half of the 10th century, the Shrine and its surroundings are given Deodat, Abbe de Saint Salvy, College of Albi by Louis 4th of overseas. The name of village "Monestario" appears for the first time in the texts. He recalls the monastic ownership, perhaps the existence of a small monastery could be built to house a few monks in charge of worship. But the occupation of the site is even older: 600 meters from the village, an oppidum established at the confluence of Cérou Ceret and shows that the iron age, people were already living in the valley. A few centuries later, they leave the hills and settled on the site, near the Roman road linking Rodez in Toulouse.
Strolling through the village, walks in the countryside can find these traces of past and discover the richness and variety of landscapes of this region and Causse Ségala Rouergat meet.
The museum Bajen-Vega: On the Place de la Mairie, a former home, resort bishop in the 18th century, donated to the municipality by the painter Francisco Bajen, home to over a hundred tables where realism and mysticism come together as the sweetness of being and the violence of his fate, all in a harmony of colors sharp black Martine Vega (nicknamed the "tamer colors") and illuminated in red for Francisco Bajen (nicknamed "the painter of silence" ). One room is also dedicated to archeology.
The church Saint-Pierre: Built in 1550 on the remains of a Romanesque church, it belongs to the Southern Gothic buildings (bedside to 5 parts, 3 bays and 5 side chapels between the buttresses).
The streets of Monestiés: old houses and timbered corbelled mostly dating from the late Middle Ages, Renaissance and some of the 17th century.
La Chapelle Saint-Jacques: on the road from Rodez in St. Jacques de Compostela, near the Porta del Castel, was a small "hospital": hospital Saint-Jacques. A single room housed the sick, served as a place of worship, dormitory, dining hall for guests, pilgrims. She also served as directors' meetings. The contribution of a relic of the True Cross in 1761, involves the transformation. Completed in 1774, this new building received the decoration of the chapel's Episcopal Combefa. In 1776, he was assistant to the sacristy. It is a monument to the very simple lines surmounted by a bell tower housing a bell.
Statuary Monestiés (in the chapel of Saint-Jacques): this set consists of 20 life-size statues in polychrome limestone, dating from 1490, represents the last three episodes of the Passion of Christ: the Crucifixion, the Pieta and the Establishment Tomb.
Multiple moments enliven the medieval city: various exhibitions, flea markets, festival of French music, local festivals, regional market?
