A few words about the origins of the town of Meurville:

The name comes from Meurville Villa Mauri meaning the field of Maurus. He is quoted as 1179 in documents of the abbey of Clairvaux and is listed under the name Villa Minor (hence the name of a local Champagne Prestige).

In 1188, he writes Murville to finally take the current writing in 1513. A Meurville, many names of localities expressing their nature and use: thus it is "coffins", "the warren", "Gironde", "glassware" ...

Inhabited since Roman times, as evidenced by a sarcophagus found in its territory, Meurville houses within a church in the late twelfth-early 13th century. Like all villages near the Abbey of Clairvaux, a portion of the territory and inhabitants passed to the monks. The fire in the barn was the subject of acts of justice between 1573 and 1611.

Another part of the territory of Meurville belonged to secular families, and found during the 13th century, Meurville included in the lordship of Jaucourt with Spoy, Bligny and Argançon.
