Meslan is named after its patron Saint and Saint Melaine Melan who was Bishop of Rennes from 505 to 530. There in the town of localities "Moustoir" that might indicate an ancient monastic presence has long disappeared.
The southern area is bordered with the department of Finistère. To the west, many of the Ellé streams water the earth, separated from Meslan Lanvénégen and Faouët.
In the village of Bonigeard, the Sainte-Catherine, a fountain of devotion and rebuilt the ordeal is a particularly remarkable. Further south, the natural site of Devil's Rock is popular with hikers and experienced kayakers. It is said that this magical place was haunted by the devil and the Holy Gwénolé would have driven.
