History Marmesse begins with the founding of the Priory which is known to have existed in the 11th century. This priory belonged to the Order of Cluny, as evidenced by a carved stone located above the door of his tower. It shows indeed an angel supporting a shield on which are a sword and two crossed keys placing the priory under the name of Peter (and) or Paul. The church, much more recently than the Priory, is of Romanesque style, it is given as the mother church of Chateauvillain, and up to the 14th century, the population of this city had no other cemetery than Marmesse.

Were unearthed in 1974 in a village pond the famous armor of Marmesse. Known throughout the world, these seven armor bearing the name of the town, dating from the 9th or 8th century BC-C. They mark a turning point between Bronze Age and Iron Age and the delight of the Museum of National Antiquities in Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
