Wine Country Mareuilles: With sunshine above the national average, the vineyards of Mareuil is the largest and one of the most famous of Vendée. Located on the slopes of rivers and Lay Yon, it covers an area of 300 hectares divided between 10 communes. Annual production is around 17,000 hl. The Chenin and Chardonnay white wines provide fresh, light and aromatic. The Black Pinot and Gamay produces very fruity rosé wines and Cabernet, Gamay and Négrette of light red wines can be stored for several years.
SIGHTSEEING
Romanesque church of Saint-Sauveur de Mareuil-sur-Lay: Although the building was destroyed and rebuilt several times, one of its parts, the narthex, dates from the 11th century. It reflects the Romanesque style of the 12th century. A fire caused by the Protestants destroyed the church and the priory in 1568 and no repair was undertaken for nearly a century. After some work summary, it was destroyed during the revolution. The repair of the tower, the chancel and the west front was begun in 1877 under the leadership of Father Guerineau. This centuries-old building took eight full life after three years of construction between 1964 and 1967. In the center of the choir, the stained glass of the transfiguration of Christ was created by Meuret, a master glazier in Nantes in 1879 to replace a missing painting and painted by Mr. De Chasteigner (mayor of the town in the middle of the nineteenth).
Church of Dissais: Some architectural elements of the south wall of the building date back to the 11th or 12th century equipment in fish bones, arch ... In the 15th century, the Church of Our Lady of Diss is completely redesigned: the front with its large oculus and foothills covered saddle angle. It was ruined during the Wars of Religion (1562-1578) and rebuilt with its current bell tower in the 17th century. Four times, the bishop of Lucon visit the parish of Diss in 1681,1697,1724 and 1778. On 25 Prairial of the Year 6th (June 13, 1798), the church was sold as national property to Julie of the Bouex Villemort, widow Charles François Sabourin, Lord of Diss. The ruins of the church are listed on the Inventory of Historical Monuments in 1930. Since its creation in 1978, the Cultural Association of Country Mareuilles tries to find the many owners. The legal problem is set in 1991 by an official expropriation of the areas to benefit the common Mareuil-sur-Lay-Dissais. The church was completely restored in 1993.
Every Tuesday from early July to late August, welcome drink at a wine or from an owner of land, to taste wine, honey and keeper of the township, organized by the Association of Hosting Country Mareuilles (HATPM), reservation .
