TOWN PRESENTATION

The village is situated on the banks of the Garonne, at the mouth of La Noue. We find the customs of the community from 1432. They were similar to those of St. Martory. The two communities have remained inseparable until the 13th century. During the Renaissance, was dominated Mancioux lords Péguilhan related to the family of Montpezat, lords of Saint-Martory. The abbey of Bonnefont levied a direct part of the tithe. From the 19th century., The village has experienced industrial prosperity, thanks to its rich basin: mills, marble works and hydroelectric plant.

SIGHTSEEING

You will discover the Saint-Jacques-le Maggiore (early 19th c.) Erected after the demolition of the early church in the 13th to the place of the old Roman road. Dedicated to Saint Jacques since the Middle Ages, it has a bell tower and was built with stones of Roman and Gothic reuse.

Head to La Noue. You will discover the bridge from the Middle Ages, often called "Roman Bridge". Its name evokes the crossing of La Noue in the Gallo-Roman on the ford upstream.

From the bridge you will see the two standing stones placed along the country road where they served as terminals in the Gallo-Roman. Mancioux was located at the boundary of the Roman provinces: the Narbonne and Novempopulania (Aquitaine Country or the Nine Peoples). They date from the age of polished stone. The path of Noue path is called "Pilas", "pillar" in Occitan.
