Between Creuse and Anglin, the town belongs to the department of Indre after long belonged to Poitou.

The storied town was built on the left bank of the Creuse around a priory which depended the abbey of Saint Cyprian of Poitiers. This time remain part of the priory here called "Old Castle" and the church whose oldest part dates from the 12th century.
