Lucenay takes its name from a freedman of Julius Caesar, called Licinius, who lived in the 1st century BC. Another hypothesis says that the country would Lucenay whence comes the light, the whole village being oriented to the East ... (Luce. .. nay).
Built on a hillside on the edge of Azergues the village Lucenay not like its neighbors in the land of golden stone. Here the buildings are white stone, the famous stone Lucenay.
- Visit Lucenay village built entirely of stone country (the famous stones Lucenay). Note beautiful houses that belonged to the carriers. At the bottom of gardens and of course we see evidence of ancient extraction, the entire length of Lucenay, stone has been torn for centuries. This is a stone Bajocian limestone which was mainly used for buildings in the city of Lyon, such as the Cathedral of St. John and other buildings such as the new Cove church.
- The church Lucenay: The first chapel was built in the 9th century, it seems that the present church was built or rebuilt to the 14th and 15th century. Since it undergoes frequent repairs, especially in 1844, but has retained the ancient heart. Today the church is three naves, separated by two rows of columns. The main entrance faces the west, the chancel arch is supporting the tower. The roof, the tower and the facade were part of the old church and the choir. But the most curious in this building is that we do not build with beautiful stones Lucenay. Following a difficult discussion between the carriers and the municipality (difficulty agreeing on prices), part of the church is built of Tournus. It must be said that the stone is the same as our eyes and even warned not make a difference!
- Castle Lucenay: Beautiful building with slate roof and glazed, situated next to the church that dominates. It has a splendid view on the Saone and the Massif des Monts d'Or. The 18th century belonged to Peter Posuel de Vernal, lord of "strong at home Lucenay" embassy secretary and deputy to the general state of 1789. Until the Revolution the people had to master "the hundred and served" related to a pension. It was subsequently acquired after the Revolution by a man named Louis who turned in spinning cotton, the industry had failed (the Lucena had other sources of income among the vineyards and orchards), and then sold to various owners. .. The most imposing structure is classified.
