Town Presentation

Longessaigne The village has existed for over 1000 years in its current site. Etymologically, Longessaigne from Long and bleeding mean vast expanses of meadows. The church was founded in the 13th century.

Sightseeing

  • The Church:
  • It is Romanesque (built 730-750) and has a wooden roof renovated in the 1990s. The sculptures of the facade were made by ladies.
  • The tower was rebuilt in an unusual way for the region. We find this feature on the logo of the town. Rounder, he has five old bells and four clock faces. The bell of 2600 pounds is the largest of the township and date of 1846. Three dedicated people perpetuate the tradition by ringing bells for different ceremonies (baptism, marriage?). The clock mechanism is still functioning and the carillon.
  • Next to the church, there was a small chapel which now give catechism classes.
  • The Boidon is a circular stone wall one meter in height filled with earth which has pushed a lime tree planted at the time of Sully. It was the pride of the Bedouins, but had to be slaughtered due to an illness in 1979. He was immediately replaced by another lime. Why "Boidon? According to legend, after a quarrel with steeples, some residents Villechenève decided to cut the tree. To save the inhabitants of Longessaigne called since Bedouins (*) gave him water by saying "bé gift" (wood then) became Boidon. * This is a version, since opinions differ as to the origin of this name.
  • "The Tunnel": Located near the multi-sports field and updated by an association, this long tunnel of 140 meters, is a vestige of the line of railway L'Arbresle / Panissières whose construction began in 1906 and was interrupted by the Great War. This should be a path metric that would include a spur to hostels with the way Pontcharra / Sainte-Foy-L 'Argentiere.
  • The Tower of Canet: It is one of the last vestiges of the Middle Ages, since it was part of a castle built by Anguent Canet, page of Louis XV. The village was then retained the name.

Events and celebrations

  • Fair Sainte Blandine:
  • Each year in May, the fair hosts a thirty exhibitors (crafts, flowers?).
  • Entertainment is available during the day and lunch is served at noon in a tent.
  • Session of outdoor cinema with barbecue: July.
  • Flea market / garage sales, the first Sunday in September.
  • The hike Steeples: 2nd Sunday of September.
