Very old city, one can find traces of Lombez from the Roman period. Around the year 600 arrived from St Jacques de Compostela, Majan, a bishop of Antioch, who moved to Lombez to Christianize the area. Legend has it that the dragon that terrorized the region, throwing his episcopal ring in its mouth. A miraculous fountain whose waters healed the blind and people suffering from blindness arises in place of the dragon struck.
In the late 8th century the Duke of Aquitaine lends the place at the Abbey of St. Thibéry in Herault. The Benedictines built an abbey and a monastery. They are relayed in the 12th century by the Augustinians of Toulouse. In the 14th century, Lombez is elevated to bishop by Pope rural serving Avignon after the schism that occurred in Christendom.
