The village Lhuis is the capital of the canton. It covers 2 335 ha, from the banks of the Rhone at 205 m altitude to the summit of Tantainet which exceeds 1000 m, from the hills where the vines prosper. The town is 400 m above sea level.

The story begins Lhuis the early centuries of our era with the Gallo-Roman occupation. She continues with, including the lordship of Lhuis in the 13th century.
