• The history of Levier:

• Levier (Levier in 1261, Livia 1264-1273, Lyvier in 1277) owes its name to a lake that occupied the bottom of the basin south of the town today. According to legend, later the monks moved to Barns Jersey, eventually clearing the current site of Levier.
• The prehistoric left no trace in the village and only the Lane Antique Chalamont reflects business activity in the region.
• In the 13th century, the history of Haut-Doubs is marked by the appearance of the house of Chalon. Jean led the ancient policy of expansion along the road-Salins Pontarlier in the Lime of Arlie and in the upper valley of the Doubs. The village is built around a fountain, its ovens and its fruit (1272).
• In the late 15th century, the region Levier is traversed by the armies of Louis 11th (Castle Jersey was destroyed in 1480).
• This is the 17th century that befell Levier great misfortunes: in 1636, pestilence, hail and fire, in 1639, the devastation of the town by the Swedes under the leadership of Saxe Weimar.
• In the 18th century, Levier is engulfed in flames. In 1718, the night of 15 September, 80 houses were destroyed and crops destroyed. Only the church, the rectory and the ends of the village are spared. In 1749, a raging fire made havoc again. During this century and the next Levier defends his forest against royal usurpation which removes the habits and customs of the villagers (Maglot Ordinance of 1727 which aims to feed the wood Salines). However, the forest was necessary for three purposes: the grazing fee, the right to use firewood, the right timber (from 1701 to 1851, 420 houses were destroyed by fire). The Revolution allows the return of these uses for the residents of Levier.
• The second half of the 19th century is also marked by strong fire (1855: 270 victims of a population of 1535 inhabitants, 1882-1885: 5 people are killed; 1890: 15 disaster), war (1870: the village is occupied by the Prussians before their march on Pontarlier (1871)), reconstruction, heritage today (renovation of the church from 1830, the fountains and wash houses, city hall and the halls In 1860, the school St. Joseph in 1891).
• In his entry in the 20th century, Levier has a major road-Dijon Switzerland, Tacot (1902 Andelot-Levier; 1920 Levier-Pontarlier and Levier-Besançon). The wars, they also leave their imprints: 1914-1918: Great War (53 died) with the arrival of U.S. allies in 1918 in the Round; 1939-1945: World War II (12 deaths), the German occupation and Resistance movements very active particularly around Granges Jersey. The growth of the village (the main dates of its expansion) in 1953 created several subdivisions; 1960-1966 construction of the first galleries at the stage of the ASL, construction of changing rooms and other amenities; 1970 Fir Tree Road, 1971 the hall; 1972 Louis Pergaud school group, retirement home in 1974, 1975 square of the church in 1977 the new police station and the square of Rocheret; 1985 Hall Sports (Tennis); 1989 buildings, sports areas including the pool and business area; 2000 square of the church in 2001 and renovated halls of the museum relay horse Comtois, library, toy library.
