The name of Moutiers-en-Cinglais means monastery boars.

Two castles are located on the territory of the town: one naming Villeray and belonging to the family Le Roy Ladurie, the other located on the National Caen - Thury-Harcourt and has changed owners several times (and sometimes school house retirement).

Historically, the town has in its heritage a Gallo-Roman Avenue from Calvary at the Chateau de Villeray.
