At the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers, Les Esseintes is a pretty traditional village surrounded by vineyards and has a Romanesque church, St. Eutropius, dating from the 12th century. Several elements of the church have been discovered in the 20th century. Indeed, in 1959, the altar collapsed, revealing a Romanesque apse. At a Sunday mass in 1961, the mass of masonry which covered the sanctuary collapsed in turn, undermined by a rainy season. The original wall in small device is then revealed. Now in its lines restored Romanesque church and its beautiful bell tower are the pride of the villagers.
