Located on Lake Road, at the south-western department of Tarn, the crossroads of two regions: Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrenees. The village Cammazes occupies a plateau between the valleys of Sor and Laudot, surrounded by a vast forest estate.
At the door of the Black Mountains in Parc Naturel Régional du Haut Languedoc, the last bastion of the Massif Central, the balcony of the vast plains of Lauragais, this village of 300 inhabitants has a microclimate influences of Atlantic and Mediterranean an average altitude of 615 meters.
SIGHTSEEING
For Cammazes, the channel passes under the mountain and engulfed in a vault of 122.70 m long and 3 meters high, designed and built by Vauban in 1686. This beautiful arch of Vauban is now one of the most remarkable works of the Canal du Midi. Feel free to borrow from the queuleuleu Rigole ... The Black Mountain-lined trees and waterfalls, and the Arch of Vauban were classified with the Canal du Midi in the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1996. "The Cross" Discover "the path of the cross." You walk in and around the village you will find 11 cross, statues or oratory, each with its history. The crosses were used as bridge to stop the blessing of crops and animals. The stone cross on base are generally cubic in shape "Latin" in granite, the oldest dating from 1714.
"The pot of charcoal": Discover the history of the "pots of coal" in the forest of the Needle, from the village, the last 3 in the region. The forest of the Needle, formerly royal forest, has always possessed a large stock of raw material with its timber. Living in the heart of this forest, the colliers were sleeping in huts near their worksites. The Boilers or Charbonnières, large steel pots were used for making charcoal. The charcoal filled the timber and inflamed. These pots are no longer used since 1958. A committee of the Tourism Office Les Cammazes composed of small local heritage advocates, is working to restore them.
